ESCRIBIR LA HISTORIA DE LA FOTOGRAFÍA / WRITING THE HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY

La historia de la fotografía no es muy larga, pero es extremadamente densa. Sumadas, brevedad y densidad, hacen que sea una materia casi impracticable. A esa dificultad hay que añadir la que deriva de los sucesivos cambios técnicos, sociales y conceptuales que determinan la historia del medio fotográfico, cambios cada vez más acelerados hasta la gigantesca llegada de lo digital.

La deconstrucción de los sucesivos discursos historiográficos se hace imprescindible para arrojar algo de luz sobre una cuestión tan compleja. Es necesario someter esos discursos a una revisión crítica, a la determinación de sus pretensiones y al análisis del entramado que los relaciona con otras disciplinas y, desde luego, con la sociedad misma. Son pretensiones que sin duda escapan a las posibilidades de este encuentro, pero cuyo enunciado y el consiguiente debate sobre las mismas deben ayudar a clarificar.

The history of photography is not very long, but it is extremely dense. Added, brevity and density, make it almost an impracticable matter. Must be added the difficulties deriving from successive technical, social and conceptual changes that determine the history of the photographic medium, increasingly rapid changes to the giant advent of digital world. 

Deconstructing these successive historiographical discourses is essential to throw some light on this complex question. It is necessary to submit these statements to a critical revision, to determine their pretensions and to analyze the framework that relates it to other disciplines and, of course, to society itself. Claims that are certainly beyond the possibilities of this meeting, but whose statement and the ensuing discussion about them should help clarify.
